DORA MARTINEZ MCALLEN - Dora Alicia Martinez, 71, entered eternal rest Friday, November 12, 2021 in McAllen surrounded by her family. Dora Martinez was born in McAllen, TX on May 11, 1950 to Eliecer “Red” Medina and Delfina Medina. She was a 1968 graduate of McAllen High School where she was a proud member of the Bulldog Marching Band. Throughout her school years she received many awards for perfect attendance and outstanding academics. She was a member of the National Honor Society her Jr and Sr years. She started her career right after high school with Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She was a highly valued employee and often sought out by peers for help and answers. Dora married her high school sweetheart, Rudy, in 1973. For 48 years they shared a deep love for family, friendships, music and correcting one another. Dora was a devoted loving mother to 4 beautiful daughters, Jenny, Denise, Sandra and Rebecca. She nurtured her family with her love of cooking, baking and sewing. Her meticulous hands were used to sew her girls clothes and create masterpiece Halloween costumes. She retired from SBC in 2004 after 35 years of service. During her retirement she enjoyed spoiling and taking care of her grandchildren. They were the light of her life. This was also when she and Rudy developed their strong love of karaoke. It didn’t matter the occasion or the song, if you handed Dora a microphone she’d be ready to sing. One year ago Dora became a great grandmother and it brought nothing but pride to see the start of a new generation. She left this earth far too soon, but she left behind countless family and friends that will hold fond memories of her. She will be remembered for her strength, loyalty, selflessness, voice and love for her family. Dora is preceded in death by her father Eliecer Medina Jr, daughter Rebecca, and grandsons Miles and Mason. She is survived by her loving husband, Rudy.
