ROBERT “BOBBY” LOPEZ, JR

EDINBURG - Robert “Bobby” Lopez, Jr, 22, of Edinburg, Texas passed away peacefully Monday night, December 10, 2018, at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.  At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his family, who diligently held vigil for two weeks since the night of his devastating car accident in Edinburg. 

Bobby was born on August 17, 1996, in Edinburg, Texas and lived with his parents, Robert Sr, and Sylvia (Garcia) Lopez, until the time of his death.  From a very young age, Bobby developed a love for baseball and excelled throughout the years from T-Ball to Varsity. At the age of 5, Bobby joined little league and eventually played in select teams year-round.  He was known by many in the community as an excellent pitcher and third baseman.

Bobby was also a music enthusiast and aspiring artist.  After graduating from Robert Vela High School in 2014, Bobby traveled to Los Angeles, California emerging himself in the cultural rap music genre.  When he returned to Edinburg, music remained a central part of his life. He enjoyed writing, singing, and composing his own music. 

A wonderful friend, Bobby is remembered for his contagious personality and gentle and kind heart.  He supported the philosophy of being good and kind to both people and animals. He was often seen at home doting on his dogs, Porky and Cujo. 

Bobby is survived by his parents, Robert, Sr. and Sylvia (Garcia) Lopez (Edinburg); sister, Tammy Olivarez (Carlos) of Mercedes, Texas; nieces, Chloe Olivarez, Carly Olivarez; nephews, Diego Olivarez, Gabriel Olivarez; paternal grandmother, Irma Lopez (Edinburg), and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Benito Garcia, Sr., and Orelia G. Garcia (Weslaco); paternal grandfather, Horacio Lopez, Sr. (Edinburg).

Viewing will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 215 North 16th, in Edinburg.  Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens, 6200 North Val Verde Road, in Donna.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
