Obituary of Dr. Robert Sidney Kent

ROBERT SIDNEY KENT

Edinburg - Dr. Kent passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning November 11, 2017.  He was born August 25, 1948, to BW and Ida Mae (Cunningham) Kent in Escondido, CA.  His family moved to Garland, TX in 1952.  He graduated from South Garland HS in 1966, from the University of Texas Arlington, and Baylor Dental School in Houston.  He served in the US Air Force as an officer and dentist and established his dental practice in the McAllen/Edinburg area in the mid 70s thru 2017.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Ramsey June 19, 1971 and adopted a baby (Justin) in 1981.

He enjoyed his dental practice, ranching, hunting, fishing, and photography where he won awards and was published.

Dr. Kent was a Member of the Kiwanis Club of Edinburg for over 42 years and had a passion for serving the community and making a difference in the lives of children. He served the club with distinction as a Past President and Board of Directors Member.  He graciously donated his time and monetary resources to many children’s charitable organizations including the Kiwanis Scholarship programs to help high school students.  He was a mentor to Kiwanis members as well as young people in the community and his dental practice encouraging and helping them to get an education.

He is predeceased by his parents, his nephews Kenneth Kent and Ryan Vance and survived by his brother Jerry L Kent (Debbie) and family, sister Terry D Kent Vance (Terry L) and family, and three nephews and a niece and their (including Ryan’s) families.

He had a Heart of Gold helping others in need and was intent on not being in the limelight for the work he did in his community.  He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and associates.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Legacy Chapels 4610 S. Jackson Rd in Edinburg.
