Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MCALLEN - Martha Fadenrecht Warkentine passed away at McAllen Medical Center on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the age of 95.
She is predeceased by husband of 50 years, Jacob Aaron Warkentine; parents John and Sarah Fadenrecht; and brothers Edward Fadenrecht and Melvin Fadenrecht.
Martha is lovingly remembered by her sons Jerry D. Warkentine (Karleen) from McAllen, Tx and James D. Warkentine (Lilia) from San Antonio, Tx.; grandchildren: Brian S. Warkentine (Angie) and Nathan D. Warkentine (Diane) both from Houston, Tx.; Kevin D. Warkentine (Ana) from McAllen, Tx; Alethea W. Keen (Don), Jennifer W. Lowery (Wayne) and James P. Warkentine all from San Antonio, Tx.; great-grandchildren: Amilia and Thomas Warkentine; Rowan, Charlotte, Garrett, Aubrey and Riley Keen; Samuel Lowery; Jacob and Derek Warkentine, and other relatives in Colorado and Oklahoma.
Martha was born in Henderson, Nebraska on November 3, 1921. Her family moved to Joes, Colorado and she lived there until 1983 when she and her husband moved to Mission to be near their sons. Martha spent most of her life being an excellent caregiver; first to her paraplegic father, then to her mother and later to her husband who suffered a stroke. Martha was blessed to have been born into a Christian home. She became a Christian at a young age, was baptized and became a member of the New Hope Mennonite Brethren Church in Joes, Colorado. Upon moving to the RGV, she became a member of the First Baptist Church in McAllen, Tx.
Martha enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and has passed old German Mennonite recipes to her family. She always helped her husband tend to the farm chores. She worked several years as a cook at the restaurant in Joes. When she became homebound, she enjoyed reading many Christian and Amish novels. She was known to read about 2 novels a week. She also challenged herself to read through the Bible every year. Each night before going to sleep, she would pray for her sons and their families one by one. Although we are saddened by our mom's passing, we have the assurance that she is in heaven with her Lord and Savior. We have the hope that we will see her again one day and that she "will rise when He calls her name"!
