EDITH ADRIAN PORTER AMEGIN Edith Adrian Porter Amegin, 73, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on18 January, 2013 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center in Edinburg, Texas. She was born on November 1st 1939 in Pecos, Texas to Guy Adrian and Myrtle Inez McGraw Porter. Edith grew up in Pecos, Texas. She graduated from Pecos High School in Pecos, Texas in 1958 where she was an active member of Choir and Drama. After high school she attended East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas, where she received a Bachelor Degree of Music Education in 1963. She began her teaching career in Gallup, New Mexico. She attended Golden Gate Theological Seminary from 1965-1966. She taught grades K-12 music, GED-both for civilians and military personnel-and English as a Second Language for a major part of her life. For the latter years of her life, she was the University Eye Center Business Administrator. Edith married George Peter Amegin on the 21st of August 1965 in Sacramento, California. They were happily married for 47 years. Starting in 1966-1970, Edith both supported and helped put her husband George through medical school, by teaching full-time. Edith was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and in later years was a member of Living By Faith Church. She enjoyed singing -especially opera and Christian music. She instilled a love of music into her family ensuring it was emphasized equally with their other studies. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver who loved to cook, collect recipes and cookbooks. Above all, she had a wonderful gift of hospitality always giving of herself and all she had, a true living model of Christ. Edith was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Myrtle Porter and her sister Sally Burrows. Edith is survived by her spouse George of Edinburg, Texas; her daughter Natasha (spouse of Simon) Amegin-Armenta of Edinburg; her son Daniel (spouse of Sheryl) Amegin of Tucson, Arizona; her son John Amegin of Lufkin, Texas; her son Guy (spouse of Alejandra) of Bristow, Virginia; her sister Nelda (spouse of Juan) Perez of Grand Prairie, Texas; her grandchildren Valeria, Anastacia, Antonio, Ashley, Jonathan, Michael, Macy, Anyssa; and great-grandchild Lilliana. Visitation will be from 5pm to 9 pm with a 7 pm prayer service, today, January 21, 2013, at Legacy Chapels in Edinburg. A live webcast of the service will available at www.legacychpalesrgv.com. Graveside service will be at 10am Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 South Inspiration Road, in Mission, Texas. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
