CIRO GUERRA JR.
MCALLEN - Ciro Guerra Jr., 81, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home. Born on March 21, 1935, in Rio Grande City, Texas,to Ciro and Ernestina Gomez Guerra Sr. he moved his family to McAllen in 1945. Ciro attended McAllen public schools up to the 6th grade and graduated from La Joya High School. Ciro worked at a young age to help provide for his family and enlisted in the U.S. Navy and the Texas National Guard. Ciro worked in the retail sales, the United States Department of Agriculture and McAllen I.S.D. until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, friends, and had a passion for dancing. Ciro was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen.
Mr. Guerra was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Josefina Flores Guerra; his parents, Ciro and Ernestina Gomez Guerra Sr.; four siblings, Leonel L. Guerra, Ernestina G. Cavazos, Ruben Dario Guerra and Guadalupe G. Castro; three brothers- in- law, Hector Cavazos, Alfredo Rogers and Martin Castro Sr.
Ciro is survived by his children, Ciro (Mindy) Guerra III and Elizabeth Guerra Lopez; seven grandchildren, Ciro Matthew Guerra, Zoe Kyle Guerra, Ariel Grace Guerra, Ayden William Guerra, Marco (Samantha) Antonio Lopez, Kristina Lizette Lopez and Michael David Lopez; a great-granddaughter, Lucy Marie Lopez; nine siblings, Bertha G. Rogers, Martin (Maria Elena) Guerra, Ramon (Minerva) Guerra, Gilberto L. (Alicia) Guerra, Angelina G. Perez, Roberto (Anne Marie) Guerra, Norma G. (Guadalupe) Castillo, Jorge (Terry) Guerra and Hector Guerra; a sister-in-law, Lily Guerra; numerous nieces and nephews; a long time friend Cris Ausborn.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Legacy Chapels 4610 S. Jackson Rd in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2016, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen with full military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 8788 in McAllen.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
