Obituary of Joe Garcia

MCALLEN - Joe T. Garcia, 68, went to be with our Lord, Saturday, July 16, 2016, in Edinburg surrounded by his family. Born in Laredo, Texas and formerly of Corpus Christi, Texas, he lived in McAllen most of his life. Mr. Garcia is preceded in death by a son, Jose David Garcia, and his father, Teofilo David Garcia. Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife, Juanita I. Garcia; three children, Cristina (Ed) Castillo, Rebecca (Rolando) Guerra and J.J. (Patti) Garcia; seven grandchildren, Cody, Mia, Isabella, Andrew, Caleb, Ryan, and Allie; his mother, Gloria Garcia; four sisters, Trisy Mendez, Gloria (Robert) Newman, Elisa (Arnold) Arispe and Veronica Garcia, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe attended schools in Corpus Christi graduating from Carroll High School. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Texas A&I. Joe moved to McAllen after being hired for the position of Executive Director of the Mexican American Center for Economic Development Corporation. He later moved on to become an Executive Vice-President of Lending at Alamo Bank of Texas, and a commercial loan officer at Frost Bank. After his retirement from Frost Bank, Joe has enjoyed traveling with his wife and family around Texas, Las Vegas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Minnesota. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, gardening, and collecting and watching movies. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his seven grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing with them, teaching them how to catch, throw, and bat a ball, coaching them on their soccer skills, and teaching them how to use workshop tools. Pallbearers will be J.J.Garcia, Ed Castillo, Rolando Guerra, Octavio Laurel, Raymond Laurel, Ricky Mendez, Eric Arispe, and Luis Manuel Villarreal. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cody Castillo, Caleb Castillo, Andrew Garcia, Ryan Guerra, Robert Mendez, Abel Arispe, Jose E. Ruiz, Carlos Ruiz, and Daniel E. Ruiz. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Thursday, July, 21, 2016, at Legacy Chapels 4610 S. Jackson Rd in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen. Cremation will follow. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
