JOHNNY SAMARRIPPA NAJERA MCALLEN - On Monday, October 10, 2022, Johnny (John) Samarrippa Najera, GySgt. USMC (Ret), loving husband and father of four children and three step children and his beloved cat, passed away at age 73. John was born on June 26, 1949 in Sterling City, TX to Juan and Susy (Samarrippa) Najera. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served for 20 years before retiring. He received his bachelor's and masters degrees in Social Work from the University of Pan American. John had a passion for fishing and golf. He also loved to travel with his wife Avelinda and spend quality time with his brothers (The Najera 5), children, grandkids and great grandkids. He was known for his dad jokes, his love for his family and for all the help he provided to countless veterans. John was preceded in death by his father, Juan, and his mother, Susy. He is survived by his wife Avelinda Najera, his four children and three step-children, Johnny Najera lll, Jeremy Najera, Julie Najera, Calisxta Reyes, Carlos Mena, Eddie Mena, Meagan Martinez and Tabbers his cat. His brothers Louis Najera, Roy Najera, Eddie Najera and Billy Najera. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday, October 17, 2022 at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Chapel service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Legacy Chapels. Interment to be followed to Rio Grand Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels.
