GEORGE RIVAS
EDINBURG - George Rivas, 58, died Monday, July 20, 2015 in Edinburg. As a young man in high school he was an accomplished musician. George played the baritone sax and competed in UIL and made it to State twice. Mr. Rivas is a veteran having served in the US Army. He worked as computer programmer analyst for Region One Education Service Center and retired to work at home as a self contractor. His hobbies included gardening, an ever vigilante soldier in the perpetual war of man versus nature his foe the mighty yet miniscule leaf cutter ant. He was an avid cactus plant enthusiast. George enjoyed fishing along side his Co-Captain Skarlett and in his younger days enjoyed riding his motorcycle, along with his wife of 33 years, from California, Colorado to Las Vegas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Inez and Oralia Rivas; a brother, Inez Rivas Jr.
Skarlett was his greatest joy in life, they were like two peas in a pod, like Daisy and Sunshine. Refreshingly blunt, sarcasm never in short supply with wit always in tow, George never smirked the opportunity to flash a joke especially at your expense. George was a loving husband, father, brother, son and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Rivas is survived by his wife Debra Ann Rivas; three sons, George Rivas Jr., Trace and Yancy Devine; a daughter, Lacie Devine; five grandchildren, Skarlett Izabella, Faith, Matthew, Lane and Bailey; two brothers, Roel (Lupita) Rivas, Aaron J. Rivas Sr.; a sister, Pamela (Ricardo Maldonado) Rivas; numerous nieces and nephews.
