Obituary of Laurette Anne Prestia
Please share a memory of Laurette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ms. Laurette Anne Prestia at the age of 75. Laurette was a loving daughter, mother, wife, and friend. Laurette was preceded in death by her sisters, Paulette and Claudette; their parents, James and Carol; and her ex-husband (and good friend), Joseph.
She was passionate about animals (especially her pets), the arts, and the beauty of the written and spoken word. She enjoyed oil painting, tried her hand at stained glass and ceramics, and was an avid gardener. Her zeal for these was equaled only by her enthusiasm for teaching and her commitment to her students. Laurette taught for over forty-five years, the vast majority as an English teacher at
Edinburg High School.
For all her professional accomplishments – which included a pair of master’s degrees and, during the 2005-2006 academic year, being named Region I’s Secondary School Teacher of the Year – she derived her greatest joy from the daily devotion of educating and, most of all, the interactions with the students she met in her classroom and through the many student organizations for which she was a faculty sponsor.
She is survived by her son, Joseph (Michela); her sister, Annette; her nephews Roberto (Sabrina) and James; her nieces, Lauren and Carly; and her late-sister’s husband, Rick.
