Obituary of Richard Lee Breckon

RICHARD LEE "DICK" BRECKON ALAMO - Richard Lee “Dick” Breckon, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Comfort House in McAllen, TX. Richard was born on July 15, 1936, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Royal and Eva Breckon. He was a 1954 graduate of Creston High School and a Korean War veteran, proudly serving in the United States Army. On October 5, 1984, Richard married Lois Oost Reed and they began their nearly 37-year adventure together. In the fall of 2004, they relocated to Alamo, TX, enjoying their time in the Rio Grande Valley. While in the Valley, Richard volunteered with the American Red Cross and as a driver for the Shriner’s Club, transporting children to the Shriner’s Hospital in Houston. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Richard was predeceased by his parents, brother Robert, and great-granddaughter Julianna. He is survived by his wife, Lois, children Carrie (David) Blackburn of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Christy Miller of Des Arc, AR, Rich (Amy) Breckon of Hudsonville, MI, and Rob (Carrie) Breckon, of Lansing, MI. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many very special life-long friends. In accordance with his wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral service. There will be a private interment service at the Rio Grande Valley State Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date. The family thanks the staff of A Healing Touch Hospice and family physician, Dr. Daniel Contreras, MD, for their loving and gentle care at this most difficult time. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the Comfort House, 617 Dallas Avenue, McAllen, TX 78501. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
