EDINBURG — Rene Benavides, 72, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in McAllen surounded by his family. Mr. Benavides is survived by his wife Josefina Benavides; three daughters, Adrienne (Eddie) De La Rosa, Aoneida (Nedzad) Benavides, Athena (Mark) Cherry; nine grandchildren; six sisters, Trinidad Ruiz, Gloria (Raul) Castillo, Ramona Gonzalez, Felipa De La Garza, Leocadia (Martin) Castillo and Petra (Raul) Aguilar; a brother, Rodolfo Valentine (Susanna) Benavides; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5pm to 9pm with a 7pm rosary, today, April 16, 2015, at Legacy Chapels, 4610 S. Jackson Rd in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 11am Friday, April 17, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission with full military honors. Special thanks to Dr. N. Shekar and the staff at Texas Oncology, Dr. Fano and all the nurses and staff at McAllen Medical Center, and the doctors and staff at the Veterans McAllen Outpatient Clinic. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
