MCALLEN - On Friday, April 30th, 2021, Reyes G. De La Cruz, loving husband, father of two, grandfather of three and dedicated Veteran passed away quietly in his home at the age of 76. Reyes was born in McAllen, Texas in 1945 to Maria Trinidad Corona and Luis De La Cruz. He lived in the Rio Grande Valley all his life and graduated from McAllen High School in 1965. Reyes married his high school sweetheart, Rosemarie (Rodriguez) in 1969 and they were married for 52 years. They raised two wonderful sons, Ray De La Cruz Jr. and Danny De La Cruz.
Reyes wanted to lead a life of public service to his country all the while serving God. His first job was a shoeshiner at a very young age to help his mom make ends meet. He enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam era. The Private First Class was stationed in Germany as a Radio Operator. After completing his military service, he became a successful businessman. Reyes took a great deal of pride in being the sole provider for his family. He was employed with the United Automobile Association as a Salesperson before following his true calling. Reyes always dreamed of becoming a business owner. His unparalleled work ethic, the unyielding support from his loving wife and his business acumen gave him the inspiration, confidence, and drive to open and operate a very successful advertising company. His advertising company served the greater Rio Grande Valley for many years. Reyes always understood the importance of God in his life from a very young age. He was active in his church and a dedicated Christian.
Reyes was creative, enjoyed drawing, avid music lover and a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Anaheim Angels. He will be remembered for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, love of God, country, and family. Reyes was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Christina (Mama Nene) Gonzalez, father, Luis De La Cruz, and mother, Maria Trinidad Corona, his brothers Victor Bonilla, Ramiro De La Cruz and Benny Corona. He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie, his two children, Ray Jr. and Danny, three grandchildren, Tony, Danny II, Kadie Ann and siblings Martin Corona, Melecio Corona, Benito Corona, Jose Matias Corona, Maria Rosalinda Trevino, Maria Lucila Leos, Jovita Pina, Dora Corona, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a 5 p.m. prayer service Friday, May 7, 2021, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2021, at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen with full military honors.
Funeral service are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
