Alicia Velazquez, born on January 17th 1930 in El Salvador to Gilberto and Maria Gomez, passed away on February 3, 2015. Mrs. Velazquez was a resident of San Juan, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Santos Velazquez, a daughter Sylvia Vera, her parents and two brothers, Carlos Orlando Gomez and Jorge Gomez. She is survived by two daughters: Patricia (Matthew) Adams of Mission, Lizette (Jason) Roppolo of Dallas, 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and sisters: Estela Parada, Concepcion Rivera and Celia Gomez. Alicia Velazquez lived life to the fullest enjoying some of the simpler things in life such as bird watching, fishing, and gardening. At the same time she loved the complexity and challenge as a public servant to her community serving in the educational environment as well as mayor in her hometown in El Salvador. A chapel service will take place at 10:00am on Friday, February 6th 2015 at Legacy Funeral Home, 4610 S. Jackson Rd. in Edinburg. Burial will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. The family is in the care of Legacy Funeral Home in Edinburg.
