James Robert Cassaday (Jim), 87, born on January 3, 1934, in Saline County,Mo. to Harvey and Hester Cassaday. He graduated in 1952 from Slater High School and attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. for one year before transferring to Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Mo. , where he met his future wife, the former Charlene Green. Jim and Charli were married on July 18, 1953 at Harmony Baptist Church near Warrensburg, Mo. They made their home in the Kansas City,Mo. area. They were the parents of four sons, James Roger, John Michael, Steven Charles and Jerry Lee. Jim retired in 1992 from Wetereau Foods and moved to Texas He was very active in the Raytown, Mo. Little League Baseball program for eleven years as coach and manager. He and Charli were square dancers for several years before and after moving to Texas. They made their home in Victoria Palms Resort for 16 years where they were active in the Billiard program and playing in tournaments. As Charli got more involved in music jams, Jim got most of his entertainment following and getting into the act whenever possible. He became well known for some of his antics, such as the Lady in Red, and running off with the ladies. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harvey,Jr; a sister, Mary Ann Lewellen; a son, Jerry Lee; two beloved English Bulldogs, Hooch and Bandit. Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years; sons, Roger and Cyndy of Galveston, Tx,. Michael and Peggy of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Steven Cassaday of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous friends and at least 23 girlfriends. A private service will be held at a later date. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
