Daniel Ray "Dan" Grun MISSION - It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Daniel Ray Grun of Mission, TX, who left us to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2020. A man with a true servant heart, Daniel lost his courageous battle with COVID-19, succumbing to the virus he worked to save so many others from as a RN working the frontlines at Mission Regional Medical Center. Daniel is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Priscilla Grun, and benevolent son, Bradley Grun. He is also survived by his father, Johnny Grun, and mother, Pamela (JB) Leslie, both of La Vernia, TX, and brother, Scott (Letha) Scrimpsher, and three nieces of Chesnee, South Carolina. Daniel also leaves behind a host of dear family members, friends, colleagues and fellow members of faith at his place of worship, Palm Valley Church, as he and his family were dedicated Christ followers. Daniel was born in San Antonio, TX, on November 28, 1971. He was a proud graduate of La Vernia High School in 1990 and earned a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 2015. He met his wife while working in San Antonio and along with their son, Bradley, settled in Mission in 2010. Daniel was a true man of character and faith, having battled and beaten cancer in the past. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and son, given they were his foremost concern in his life. He was their biggest supporter and loved nothing more than hearing about their day. They traveled the world together; taking in sights, adventures and making lifetime memories. Daniel couldn’t be a prouder father of his son, Bradley, who is scheduled to graduate from Texas A&M – College Station at the conclusion of this upcoming Fall semester. A soft-spoken, humble individual, Daniel leaves behind a legacy of love and empathy, dedication and devotion, and patience. He was a true servant, often putting his needs aside for others. He volunteered in various roles at his church and enjoyed meeting and talking with new people. His gentleness and famous teddy bear hugs will truly be missed by all who knew him. The Grun family is humbled by the overwhelming response they have received by those who have been touched by Daniel’s story and short time on this Earth. The beautiful memories others have of him will live on and never cease to falter. His values will live and carry on through all who knew him. His spirit shall never fade. He will continue to be a light that will never dim. His story is not over. Services for Daniel Ray Grun will be held on Thursday, July 30th at 6pm, Palm Valley Church, 1720 E. Griffin Parkway, Mission, TX, 78572. A private burial will take place at a later date in San Antonio, TX. The family is requesting that any parties attending from the medical field wear their medical scrubs as a tribute to Daniel’s life and honor to the medical community. “His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”.
