McAllen- Robert C. Smith, IV. (Bob) - Passed away on September 2, 2014 at 8:35am after a lengthy illness. Bob was born on June 22, 1937 in McAllen, Texas to Robert C. Smith, III, and Norma Cady Smith. Bob attended schools in La Joya, PSJA, and McAllen where he graduated in 1955. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, before returning to the Valley. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Bob worked in the agriculture field most of his life. During the mid 1980's, he partnered with his wife, Karon, into the oil and gas industry and together they operated Smith Disposal, LLC. Some of Bob's hobbies included golf, flying, motorcycling, hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Jodi Kosub. He is survived by his loving, longtime companion, Elizabeth Pierson; his wife, Karon Smith; children, Kathy Smith Potter, (Ben), Elizabeth Smith Johnson, (Keith), Barbara Smith, and David Frank Smith,( Martha); grandchildren, Sammantha Potter and Kynnison Smith; three nieces, two nephews, one great-niece and two great-nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 6:00pm on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Legacy Funeral Home, 4610 S. Jackson Rd., in Edinburg. Immediately following the service, all are invited to a reception at Legacy Funeral Home.
