Obituary of Rafaela M. Melendez

EDINBURG - Rafaela Melendez, 101, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Edinburg. Rafaela was born on November 19, 1917 in San Carlos, Tamaulipas. Mexico to Hermenegildo and Paula (Reyes) Morales. Rafaela was a long time resident of Edinburg. Rafaela celebrated her grand 101 years young just three months ago. Rafaela will be dearly missed by her loving family.

Rafaela was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Francisco Melendez Garza; her daughter Floranelia Dias.

Rafaela is survived by her sons and daughters; Enrique (Yolanda) Melendez, Maria Dolores (Jose) Salinas, Ignacio (Esperanza) Melendez, Sara (Arturo) Lara, Elizandro (Maribel) Melendez, Maria Esparza Melendez, Francisco "Paco" (San Juanita) Melendez; 25 grandchildren; numerous of great grandchildren and other family members.

The Melendez family would like to extend a very special Thank You to Mrs. Suelma Ramirez, our mom's caregiver, for all the caring and love she gave to our mother. Thank you Sulema!

A gathering of family and friends wll be on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Legacy Chapels, 4610 South Jackson Rd., from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the recital of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian burial rites will be given to Rafaela Melendez on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow to Valley Memorial Cemetery in Mission.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
